The selection from Don’s cellar (lots 2622 – 3293) offered in HDH’s May auction illustrates his love for the Côte d’Or. Extraordinary verticals of Burgundian legends are found: Musigny and Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses from Roumier (including three bottles of 1993 Musigny), twenty vintages of Chambertin Rousseau, Charmes-Chambertin Joseph Roty spanning twenty-five years, and Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier’s top bottlings in astounding quantities (full dozens of Musigny from 1993, 1996 and 2001, for example). Don’s long fascination with white Burgundy has been well documented by his annual horizontal tastings, but he has even parted ways with some of his cherished producers: Coche-Dury, Domaine Lefl aive and Henri Boillot most prominently. The offering is rounded out by thoughtfully curated selections from Champagne, the Rhône Valley, Piedmont, Portugal, California and Oregon.
