Yesterday’s Hart Davis Hart Auction of Finest & Rarest Wines generated sales totaling $10,176,799. The auction sold 100% of its 2,799 lots over two action-packed days.
A good portion of day one was dedicated to The Gunderson Family Collection. Top lots from the collection included eleven 3-bottle cases of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Romanée-Conti from 2011-2021. The 2015 Romanée-Conti brought in $59,750, becoming the sale’s top lot. Bordeaux also shone brightly within the Gunderson Collection. 10 bottles of 1989 Château Haut-Brion fetched $20,315. 20% of day one’s lots hammered at or above their high pre-sale estimates.
Auction-wide, top lots included DRC, Leroy, Dujac, and many dazzling examples of top Bordeaux.
A 12-bottle case of 2010 Domaine Leroy, Clos Vougeot sold for $53,775. From The Jay Opperman Cellar, a Melchior (18L) of 2000 Château Cheval Blanc went for $33,460.
White Burgundy, Champagne, the Rhône Valley, Italy, and California performed strongly throughout the sale. A stunning offering of Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey sold exclusively within the high range of its estimates.
HDH attracts the industry’s largest bidding pool, with over 900 bidders participating in last week’s sale. Auctioneers regularly open lots for live bidding with over 20 absentee bids already on the book. Global participation continues to grow with particular interest coming from Asia, South America, and Western Europe.
