HDH’s August Auction of Fine and Rare Wines blew past estimates, achieving total sales of $3,892,330, setting myriad world-record prices and demonstrating remarkable strength in the secondary fine wine market as the fall season begins. The total hammer reached 142% of the low estimate, closer to the high estimate than the midpoint of the range; HDH’s hammer has now exceeded the midpoint in eight consecutive auctions. One hundred percent of the 2,493 available lots sold, and 1,158 bidders registered to participate using HDH’s industry-leading bidding interface and state-of-the-art auction app. The auction took place on Thursday, August 27, and Friday, August 28.
Choice Wines from a New Englander
Choice Wines from a New Englander, featuring exceptional Burgundy, Rhône, Italian and California wines in lots 186-239, realized $167,443 and nearly doubled its low estimate of $87,520. A world-record price was achieved for three bottles of 2016 La Tâche, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, which sold for $23,900 (lot 212, est. $10,000-15,000), surpassing the $20,315 achieved for three bottles of 2015 La Tâche several lots earlier (lot 207, est. $11,000-17,000). Three bottles of 2016 Chambertin, Armand Rousseau sold for $9,560 (lot 203, est. $5,500-8,500), while ten lots from Ghislaine Barthod realized $27,007 against an estimate of $9,750-14,700.
